About Terri Schmitt
Terri Schmitt has always been intensely interested in color, texture and pattern. Since childhood she has expressed herself creatively by designing and making things with her hands; always sewing clothes, designing jewelry, constructing costumes, drawing, hand-writing cards or painting.
After high school, she studied advertising journalism at Ohio University, and graphic design at the College of Mount St. Joseph and the Rhode Island School of Design. Terri enjoyed a 17-year career as a graphic designer, including having her own small business. Given the opportunity to try something new, she switched gears and attended culinary school at the Midwest Culinary Institute in Cincinnati. For 4 years, Terri operated a small catering and personal chef business.
Since January of 2014, Terri has devoted her time to the study of classical drawing and painting techniques in oil, acrylic, pastel and watercolor. Her oil paintings are cityscapes from her many travels; or still life portrayals of fruits and vegetables inspired by her days in the kitchen. Her abstract paintings in mixed media are celebrations of color, texture and pattern with themes about community, interdependence and dialog.
Living in Cincinnati for the last 25 years, Terri has had the opportunity to study with several fine artists including Marlene Steele, the late Joseph Peters, Gail Morrison, Greg Storer and most recently with David Mueller. Terri lives in Mt. Lookout with her husband and their wire-haired fox terrier named Lucy. Terri is a former board member of the Cincinnati Art Club and associate member of the Woman’s Art Club of Cincinnati.
